What to do w/the cable box after shutting down the computer?

Once I shut down my laptop the cable box has a "standby" button. Should I use that button or just unplug the computer? Is there a difference in the amount of electricity used?

I leave mine on all the time...

There is a difference but it's not a huge cost as the box draws not much power to start with.

Why unplug your computer? The connectors have a limited life and every time you unplug/replug them you're increasing the chance of them failing.
