First off I'm Scottish which also makes me British, plus London is a superb place to visit.
You can't stereotype all Muslims as 'scum' - its racist, not good. A statement is being made by the Met right now about the incident. The fact that a serious threat appears to be stopped rather than happen is more important. I have Muslim friends and they're peaceful and totally cool i.e. not terrorists.
Finally your question infers that you've put America on a higher pedestal than the UK - as if the US is 'better' at tackling terrorism than here. Our two countries are working together to stop it. Its clear America like the UK is far from perfect when it comes to terrorism but they're trying their hardest to keep our lives as safe as possible.

Please don't tar all brits with the same brush - WE didn't let them in, our Government did.
And don't tar Muslims either - they aren't all scum, only the terrorist ones.
