I'd say it's fear of something different. Also, it could be that "being gay is wrong" was drummed into their heads for so long that it's hard to overcome. Then too, I've always thought the most violently opposed people might be afraid they're gay themselves.

Gay couples have every right to show their affection for each other in public.
Most people, as you know, are heterosexual, and have little exposure to people who are gay. Seeing same gender couples show affection for each other can be difficult for them if their lives do not include friends or loved ones who are gay.
Kissing is a natural way for to people to express love: they may be partners, parents and children, other family members or just close friends, who wish to exibit their love for each other.
I find nothing wrong with women kissing women, or men kissing men, even if it is between lovers of the same gender.
I do think, also, that we must all be sensitive to others around us, and sometimes these displays of affection make others uncomfortable.
The old addage "there is a time and a place" probably would be judicious here. Some cultures and places are more comfortable than others with same gender couples, and their dispays of affection.
Knowing where you are, and how your behavior affects others, can be the clue to your behavior in a given circumstance.

It's not that bad in the US but in other countries it's even worst girl! Ignorance is part of the reason. I mean everyone has a choice of what religion they can be and that is respected so why can't your sexual orientation be excepted. If they focused all of that negative energy towards gay on other issues like world hunger, poverty, drug, crime, the world would be a better place.
My philosophy is, to each it's own!

the problem here, is two types of people.
1) the overly sensitive people who believe people shouldn't hold hands/light kiss / hug in public.
these people need to get real, there is nothing wrong with holding hands in public, nothing wrong with hugging your partner, or getnle pecks on the cheek, there isn't anything overtly sinister or sexual there.
what isn't to be seen is extreme groping or snogging, that's something obody wants to see, hetero or homo alike, it's a case of "get a room" there.
and then, there are the second kind of people,
2) the kind of people who think that homosexuality is sinister and wrong, and that it shouldn't be displayed in public at all.
to these people, i say :
get with the 21st century.
people can love who they want, andto prevent two women or two men holding hands in public, is like preventing people of different skin colours from loving one another, or preventing people from different "clans" from loving one another, the way they live their lives, and who they've chosen to live their lives with, is their choice alone, and someone's personal opinion shouldn't have any effect on them.
it's nothing to do with you, so why should you have any say in the matter?

The world is always changing but some things remain constant. The fear of the unknown and "rules" of society, will always have a strong impact in this world. They don't understand it and don't want to understand it.

A "If it feels good, do it" philosophy on life is not a good choice for living in the long term.
Many people develop depression because this relationship can't develop a natural family with the one they love.

I don't like public displays of affection from straight people or gays.
That said, I don't have a problem with homosexuality. Love who you want.

I don't like to see two men in public showing affection. The women at least don't hold hands in public because they are smarter about it then the men.
I don't have a problem with Lesbians, but I have a problem with men and what they do with each other that disgusts me. Homosexual men should keep it behind closed doors.
