Before I answer, let me just go ahead and apologize for the ones who feel the need to give you grief about breastfeeding. It's your choice to make and you do what you feel comfortable with. Not to say there aren't benefits, but it's still your choice to make. As for which formula is best, that's really a subjective question and you're liable to get many different answers. When you're in the hospital, the nurses and pediatrician will choose what formula from the different kinds they have in stock to give your son. If he tolerates that well, then just stick with it. If you prefer to choose your own, then make sure it has Lipil in it, which is a mixture of DHA & ARA nutrients which are found in breast milk and can contribute to healthier eye and brain development as well as numerous other benefits for your son. As far Similac over Enfamil or whatever, it's all in what you baby handles best. As fro what from to buy the formula in, I recommend the powder over concentrate or ready to use. You can purchase divided containers in the baby section at WalMart and premeasure out your scoops of formula in to it. Then you can premeasure some water in a bottle, leave it sitting on the counter so that it's room temperature, and when your baby gets hungry just mix and serve. You don't have to worry about refrigeration during the day or waiting on it to heat up when your baby is screaming in the middle of the night. And it's convenient for going places because you don't have to worry about it spoiling before your son gets hungry. Anyway, I hope I've been able to help. Good luck!

As you know breastfeeding is best, but not always an option. You may not have a choice with formula. Your child may not tolerate certain types. But I suggest starting with Enfamil w/Iron. Any formula with iron,DHA &ARA is what your looking for. Cheaper storebrands are available, but I found they do not mix as easily as Enfamil. The remain clumpy.

There are lots of good ones, you may want to be willing to spend that little bit extra though. Give your child every benefit.
Are you unable to breast feed or do you not want to?
It's your choice but you may be interested in this.
"breastfeeding provides a three-fold reduction in the incidence of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the first year of life as compared with bottlefeeding." [ http://www.cirp.org/library/birth/ ]
Don't worry, it's not a baseless statement.
My sources are below.
Also: "Although economic, cultural, and political pressures often confound decisions about infant feeding, the AAP [Amrican Academy Of Pediatrics] firmly adheres to the position that breastfeeding ensures the best possible health as well as the best developmental and psychosocial outcomes for the infant."

Hi there.
Who in the world told you that you cannot breastfeed? If you have breasts then you can breastfeed. If for some reason you had to have some type of surgery that removed your breasts excuse my reply but other than that (and very few life supporting medications) there is no reason that you cannot breastfeed.
Do you know that just giving your baby your colostrum alone (this means you would have to nurse him for all of about three days) prevents seven potentially FATAL diseases? To me that is a pretty good reason to let your baby nurse for three days out of your life. If you continue to let your baby nurse for up to 6 months you prevent most of the typical childhood diseases.
More than that why on earth would you NOT want to breastfeed? It is MUCH easier, it is cleaner, more nutritious by far and you always have it with you. It comes in a much more attractive container, it never has to be mixed or warmed and it does not cost a dime! How can you go wrong?
The final thing I would like to say to you is this: if you decide to stop breastfeeding you always can, however if you miss this opportunity it is gone forever. You will never know the joy of breastfeeding your precious baby. Your baby will never have the incredible benefits of his mothers milk. For your sake and for your baby's sake, give it a try. You will never know what you are missing.
Love and Blessings

Can't, or WON'T breastfeed? I'm curious. Have you had a double mastectomy? Are you an alcoholic or a drug addict? If not, then why exactly can't you breastfeed?
