I am a 16 year old boy. Please suggest some good books for me to read during my free time. I have heard about Chicken Soup for the teenage soul. Is it any good?

You shouldn't limit yourself to "books for teens." There are differences between "adult" books and "teen/children" books, but generally if a book is worth reading as a teen then it is worth reading as an adult (and visa versa).

Dracula, for example, is usually in the "adult" section, but I read it as a teenager and loved it (I still do). Ender's Game can be found in the children's section yet its fans stretch between all age ranges (personally, I wrote a paper in college using Ender's Game to discuss Genocide in literature and it worked quite well since even that "children's" books was quite complex).

But as for actual suggestions (I won't belittle you by assuming you can't read "adult books"), The Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card (starts with Seventh Son) is the best alternate history book I've read (not to be confused with historical fiction). As mentioned, Dracula is wonderful (the second chapter is a little boring, but the slowness is well worth it). Frankenstein is good too. You can probably find a collection of H.P. Lovecraft's works (these will usually contain a few of his books and several short stories). Eragon is a fun read (as is Lightning Thief), Harry Potter will most likely become a classic (or "children's classic") along side the Chronicles of Narnia (short, meaningful, and fun). The Wheel of Time series (Eye of the World being the first, written by Robert Jordan) will keep you in books for quite some time (though the first three really are the best). Till We Have Faces (by C.S. Lewis) is a splendid retelling of the myth about Cupid and Psyche that outdistances the original. On the topic of myths, the Iliad is also a fine read (I would recommend the Stanley Lombardo translation, as it is by far the best translation).

I could go on but you already have more than enough suggestions from others and myself.

Sheeza is right, Chicken Soup is pap. I think you should focus on your interests. I'm sure that you'll find a book that fits the genre.

For example:

Mystery

Silent to the Bone
Finding Vermeer [if you like solving puzzles]
Dreadlocks

Historical Fiction

The Dear America Series [very profund stories by great authors]

I almost forgot:

www.teenreads.com

is an excellent site for all teen books, fully equipped with reviews by fellow readers. It's a really good site for ages 10-18.

Chicken soup isn't really a novel, it's just a bunch of poems and short stories about life. To be honest, they all didn't really leave a lasting impression. I think you might really enjoy Life of Pi, Eragon, or an older book such as The Outsiders or The Catcher in the Rye.
