Press:
Start.
My Computer.
Then right-click your mouse on "Local Disk C" and select "Properties".
You can free-up space by using "Disk Cleanup" and speed up your computer by using "Defragmentation" (in Tools).
Only defragment the disk drive if you have added or removed large programs of files - typically I would only defragment the drive once every 3 or 4 months - because it can cause errors if you defragment too often.
Download C Cleaner (it's free) if you want a good tool to maintain your disk drive.

guessing you are using windows operating system,
On Desktop Rightclick "My Computer" Icon, and select "Properties". It will show you each partition - Total Disk Space, Used and free diskspace.
This will show you each partitions, not the no. of harddisks. A hard disk may contain one or more partitions.
Partitions are the drive name you are using as C:, D: etc.
