Do you think there is a difference in Lebanon between how men from different religions treat their wives? For example, is a christian man more liberal about his wife wearing revealing clothes than a muslim? Also - in Lebanon, what do men tend to put first - their wives or their parents? And why? I'm just curious...

An arab man is an arab man, no matter what religeon they are they always fall back to their roots and are pretty much double standards at times. Some are more open minded than others, however anyone who puts their parents before their own relationship is just plain immature and does not value their relationship or does not know how hard it is to find such love. No man likes his wife wearing revealing clothes no matter how open minded he is, even european or american guys.. trust me when you are his wife, its out of the question to wear revealing clothes.

I see You ask yourself "why?" as a liberal woman should I put up with this? Well its all part of the warm, passionate and loving package, and if you dont see many pro's ...and the cons are too much then maybe its time to move on...

The wide term of "wife treatment" varies from one individual to another and is influenced by the guy's personality more than his religion.

As for clothing I have to agree that Muslim guys have a tendency to be more conservative and yes in many times uptight.

Prioritising between parents and the wife is not related to religion. It is related to the guy himself. Either a Muslim or a Christian can be his mama's boy.

Hope this gives you an idea.

ahh, islamic stereotypes, good thing there is a Muslim here to correct you people.

Actually this all depends on the MAN.
75% of my friends are Christian from Lebanon or Palestine (and one Druze) and most their fathers are strict about what they wear. as in no mini skirts and no bikinis in the summer.
then there are girls in my masjid that arrive on Eid pretty much half naked.

personally, my dad doesnt care what i wear as long as its not too revealing its my mom thats on my back all the time lol. and out of all my muslim friends' moms, the ones who are wearin a hijab did so AGAINST their husbands will. their husbands didnt want them to wear one and they did it cuz they felt like it.

so it depends on the man and where he lives.

There is an excellent book out now called 'Because they Hate", by Bridgette Gabriel. It is partially about growing up in Lebanon and the way the three religions treat each their women. She felt many of the bad treatment of women by Muslims is also reflected in the Christian Arabs of the region. Most of the book is about the terrible effect of Islamic terrorism, but there is a great deal about your subject as well. I solidly recommend the book. Lebanon is a beautiful place, and they have always managed to find a compromise when the foriegn powers leave them alone.
