Just like all big cities in the world, there are always bad parts of town that are advised to keep away. Warsaw overall is a safe city and you have nothing to be worried about. You just have to watch where you are going and not go into bad neighborhoods. All cities have bad neighborhoods where people do not go through or walk around and Warsaw has that too. If you stay in the main part of the city you have nothing to be worried about. It is safe, and you can visit and walk all you want without worries. Just don't flaunt money or anything because that is always a bad idea wherever you go. So have fun and don't be worried. Hope this helps.

I once got my wallet nicked there, but I was stupid. Warsaw is pretty safe. A lot safer than London, for example. Like everywhere else, if a district you wander into looks dodgy, wander out of it again.

Well I went to Poland a couple of years ago and had no problems. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I guess there is probably a threat of pick-pocketing of tourists, who are east targets, but no worse than any other country. If yuo are planning on visiting, it is a lovely country, and you will have a great time!

it's a city full of all sorts of people...you can get pick-pocketed/mugged anywhere. i just got back and there was a large police presence on the streets, so it felt safe in the day as well as the night.

Yes, it is far less dangerous than most European cities of comparable size. However, as in all large cities a little discretion is advised.

Why have you heard other wise?

Just take the usual precautions, don't put yourself in unsafe situations. Just like you would at home.

I had no trouble there last year. Like everyone else said, just be save and use good judgment and you should be okay.
