Ssangyong motors builds cars based on previous generation Mercedes Benz models. In Korea, they are regarded as "poor man's Mercedes Benz". Other than minor cosmetic differences and the brandname, the Ssangyong cars (eg; Ssangyong Chairman = E-class Mercedes Benz) feel like the real deal.

They are also regarded as a fantastic value because unlike the original M-B cars, they come fully loaded with virtually all options; and at a price way lower than a basic M-B.

To add to Snowie's comments. Ulrich Bez, who currently runs Aston-Martin, used to work for Mercedes. He left Mercedes in the 90's and went to work for Daewoo (who at the time owned Ssang Yong). These cars have officially licensed Mercedes engines and tranny's in their cars. They also used these powertrains in sport utility vehicles named Musso and Korando. When I worked at Daewoo, we actually investigated importing the suv's but Mercedes wouldn't approve it for the U.S.
