It varies greatly where you live (what State you live in if in the U.S.) and prior history.

Many States have the car towed to an impound yard. Again, depending on the laws of the State where the infraction occurs, the owner, the owner’s spouse, their agent (such as an attorney or other designee), or a lien holder are usually the only persons who can have the vehicle released to them (and they have to have a VALID driver's license).

The person the vehicle is released to is responsible for paying all towing and storage charges. The vehicle will not be release until the charges due to the towing company are paid in full.

Some states have require by law that the vehicle be held in impound for 30 days (which allows them ample time to search the vehicle for anything that is illegal).

After a certain period of time if the car is not picked up out of impound and the fees paid in full, the towing company will file to assume the title of the vehicle.

If there have been mulitiple prior DUIs/OWIs and/or priors for not having the vehicles insured or other felonly convictions, there are civil forfeiture laws (Florida is one of the States) where you can lose your vehicle permanently.

If you get arrested for DUI you car will be towed to where the police keep the cars and you will get it back if they release you or a member of family or friend can come pick it up with your permission after the alcohol gets out of your system lol.

Where I live the cops smack a big old orange sticker on the
window the says the time it was pulled over and write in that have to scrape off ink stuff on the windshield and a sticker on the drivers mirror. And it is left on the side of the road where they pulled the drunk over.
Can't be moved until the time is over or its picked up by someone else.

Most places it depends where you were stopped. If you happened to be stopped where there is public parking, it will usually be left there. If it's on the side of the road, it will be towed to an impound lot.

It depends on what state you're in, and where you're parked.
