my baby moves constantly now...I am not holding it out of joy or fun, I am subliminally telling my child ouch please stop you're hurting mommy...plus your stomach muscles are stretching, and it gets tough to put them in your lap since now you have this big belly in the way.

Weird, huh? I am 10 weeks pregnant and have developed this same habit. Many times I don't even realize it until I am asked, "Why do you keep rubbing your belly?" Personally, I feel a connection, a maternal bond with this unborn child that innately I want to hold but can't yet. It is the closest contact I have with my baby at this point.

The belly button bulges because with the baby growing, everything is pushing from the inside out.

When I was pregnant I would constantly rub my belly.. it wasnt for any reason other than the fact that it was like a bonding thing with your baby. They can feel the motion, and it tends to calm them. Similar to after they are born when you hold them and rub thier back etc.

In thinner women where there isnt excess buldge in the middle the baby presses against the belly button, or umbiilical area and causes it to distend. Its not a big deal and will go back to normal once the baby is born.

Before I became pregnant I always thought it was so *weird* that pregnant women would hold their stomachs or rub it. But now that I am pregnant I understand 100%. Usually your baby is poking a leg or arm out of your tummy and it hurts and you rub him and he will move it. It really feels better to rub them when their rowdy in you and it calms them down.

The belly button comes out when their ripe (about to give birth). But not on all women just most.

Im 19wks now...and Ive noticed lately that I tend to rub my belly or pat it, but only because half the time my stomach is hardening up and It makes me feel like I cant breath. Its crazy those braxton-hicks. I didnt realize that is what was happening til a few days ago. And the bellybutton thing, well thats just like those lil thermamoters they put in turkeys, it pops out when ready. lol...j/k its all that uterine pressue. Mine looks wierd already!

When I was pregnant it was a nice resting place. And I loved to feel my baby move. I also put my hands on my hips a lot because my back hurt. Belly buttons bulge out because there isn't any room!

I guess because there is someone moving around inside there. It's a hard concept to grasp by itself, but by actually touching and feeling the baby move, it becomes more real.

It's because it's just comforting and it feels good. I always did when I was pregnant with my son. It's comforting to feel your baby kick and move around.
