After watching what your friend is going through, you already know the answer.
We are born as we are born.
Gay, straight, bi, trans, asexual...
None of them are choice. No matter what anyone tries to tell you (No disrespect to your dad) the only decision we make is whether or not to accept and love ourselves for who we are.
Peace :D

Ask your gay friend if he -chose- to be gay. Gays are born, not made. I have lots of gay friends and they all say that.
I don't mean to dis Christians because some of my best friends are Christians and I respect their faith and their beliefs. But 30 years ago Christians were saying that gays were all child molesters. Gays can't reproduce, they said, so they have to recruit. There was never ANY evidence that gays were child molesters any more than straights were. But Christians believed it in those days because other Christians said it.
Today it's that gayness is a 'choice' and that gays threaten the married/family lifestyle. Again no evidence. In another 20 years, when they can no longer get away with saying that, they'll say something else.
Being anti-gay is not even about Christianity, it's about politics.
I think God would want you to relate to people as individuals, based on what kind of people they are. Most all the gays I've ever known were really nice people.

I do not think being homosexual is a choice. I think you are born that way and it is not wrong or a disease. My roomie at college is catholic and she was gay bashing so I sat her down and explained it to her like this. You were born and when you started to have sexual urges you just knew you like men right (she's a girl)? She said yes then I said okay well when they had the sexual urge they just knew liked people of the same sex. They did not choose it they did not decide to be hated. All of a sudden she changed her way of thought and now understands. I am not gay but I am very tolerant of others and feel that being gay is not a choice it just happens.

Being gay isn't a choice. People can't help how they feel towards another being, and how they are sexually aroused, they just can't. I mean when you like someone, you can't just say I'm going to stop liking that person right now, and then just stop at that very moment.
Doesn't the bible say that god created everyone equally or something? [ I'm atheist so I wouldn't know, I haven't read a bible in my life ] Well, gay people are just the same as you and me, they just like the same sex is all.
Marriage is about love, not gender.

In my opinion it is not a choice. We must consider both sides, however the overwhelming evidence shows it is not a choice, otherwise, straight people could choose not to be so and they profess that they can't.
There may be a biblical reason for this. Perhaps it is to test the tolerance of others. If this is so, may people would fail. To the best of my knowledge, gay people do not judge straight people, so why would they judge homosexuals? Judgment is not for us to determine; that comes from a higher power.

I'm honestly starting to believe we did something horribly bad in a past life. We were reborn into this life and so this IS our hell!! People hating, and disowning and killing gay people and taking away their rights for no reason at all...seems like hell to me!
Seriously...what difference does it make if we go to hell? It can't be any worse than this!

I am a Christian and I believe that being gay is not a choice. It is to a gay person like it is to me, to me the thought of gay sex is repulsive, to a gay person the thought of heterosexual sex is repulsive. The reason is because they are how they were meant to be just as I am the way I was meant to be. To judge another person for what we personally perceive to be right or wrong is wrong. To live and let live is right. To love is not wrong. A homosexual person loves in the exact same way as a heterosexual person. Your Dad needs to get over it, it doesn't affect him anyway.

Sweetlatina - being gay is not a choice any more than it is a choice to be straight or bi. It is a combination of many factors some of them are genetic some of them are developmental and occur in the womb. Certainly you are not possessed by anything except a kind understanding and loving heart. Those who use religion to justify hatred are the ones who are in error in my opinion.

Thats a tough one. I think you are "born gay" or something. It's just how you are, and there's nothing wrong with it. You are right about the ridicule and harassment that gay people go through and I think they are very brave because they are going for what makes them happy, no matter what. I cant honestly say I agree completely with homosexuallity, but I accept it, and I have to problem interecting with gays in any way.

It is a choice and a feeling.
Some people try to convince you that it's a "sickness" or you were "born with it". It is rather hard to explain, but it's just a feeling that overwhelms you, just like love between a man and woman. If someone feels these things about the same sex, then they have to make their choice. I made mine when I fell in love with one of my girlfriends.
Very many homosexuals do not believe in hell, or that what they are doing is wrong. Love is love, we don't believe it should be taken away, and that God would be punishing us unfairly if we were sent to eternal flames.
It is our choice, our choice to love who we seem fit. Because if you love someone, why should you care what everyone else thinks?
