A billion jillion times easier then ceramic tile.
Sweep, wash, dry, roller on paint or stain of choice, then you CAN put a coat of Varethene over it.
Super cool look, can paint borders or a "rug" or whatever
I painted our basement floor silvery with golden stars stamped into the paint...its beautiful.
You can also texture it with sponges, walk around when it is almost dry on sea sponges or rags or towels or whack it with a yacht mop, all give different neat looks.
I've done both and NEVER will I ceramic tile again, Pain in the Ar*e, with a capital P.
Just make sure to look at the paints to make sure they will adhere to cement or ask the dealer. Oh, way cheaper too.

Well if the concrete is very smooth painting it should be easy. You have to clean the concrete first. Make sure you use a good harsh cleaning agent. I suggest Muriatic Acid, you can get it at lowes or Home Depot. This chemical is very harsh so you should make sure the room is well ventilated and you should wear a respirator and rubber gloves. You need to clean the floor so that all the grease, dirt and grime on the floor does not keep the paint from bonding to the cement. If you don't clean the floor the paint will peel off in spots over time. After you clean the floor you want to use a good floor paint designed for that purpose. They have oil and latex based paint that comes in a variety of colors. Oil based paint is better but some of the latex paints now are very good too. The latex paint cleans up easier with water if you get it somewhere you didn't want it. Once you pick the paint just put it in a roller pan and roll it on. It won't take long at all. Now painting the floor is something you may have to do every year or two depending on how the paint holds up and how much traffic the floor gets. If you tile, the tiling will take a few hours more and it is a little more difficult but it will last a lifetime. Plus if you have never tiled a floor you may make mistakes and it will not turn out the way you wanted. You can learn how to install tile by reading do-it yourself books and such and if you are inclined it is not that difficult. You will need some special tools if you want to tile the floor like a tile saw, nippers, a tape measure, a level, a grout float, and things like that. Also the paint will only cost about $18 a gallon and you will probably only need 1 or 2 gallons. Ceramic tile costs about $2 a square foot plus mortar mix, grout, and any tools you may need to buy. It could cost hundreds of dollars to tile a large floor. Hope this helped.

Depends on the size of the floor. If you use a good concrete paint and the floor is smooth, you should be able to roll it on with a roller brush with an extension handle. If the concrete is bumpy, even with paint, it's not going to look that nice. Sanding down a concrete floor until it is smooth is a hellish job. Spreading out a layer of good concrete paint to me would be a WHOLE lot easier than ceramic tile. Depends on the look you are going for.

Painting the floor is easy. Putting down a paint layer that will stand up to abuse is not. Tile will look better, and last a lot longer. Consider other floor treatments also.
