Kg is a measure of weight.
Litre is a measure of volume.
The only way to convert between the two is if you know the density of the object you want to measure, where:-
density = mass / volume
(note: 1L = 0.001m^3)
However, 1kg of water = 1 litre of water.

It's by definition. When the cubic centimeter was picked as a unit of volume, it's volume was associated with the weight of one gram of water at 4 degrees Celsius. So if 1cc is defined as weighing( actually having a mass of) one gram, then 1000 cc (1 liter) must have a mass of 1000g (1 Kg).

Having read some of the answers and also from your prior knowledge[you knew it], it appears you are trying to find some sort of 'unity in diversity'.Since a Matter has a 'mass/weight' as well as a 'volume',could there be a relationship between them? well,the more is the weight per unit volume,the lesser would be volume per unit mass.Therefore,1 KG=D timed lit res[where D is the density of the material] can be used to answer the question.

Hi. No, a liter measures volume and volume is not the same as weight. One liter of water is 1 kg, one liter of steel will weight more. One liter of petrol will be ca. 700 grams.

There's no way to tell. Kilogram is a unit for mass and litres is a unit for volume. They have to have the same units to find out.
