the ds is nice, because it has cartridge games, which have a super fast load time, it has an onscreen keyboard that you can simply type in with a stylus pen... it also has a built in microphone for chat rooms... thats about all the benefits it has over the psp.
the psp has a built in video player
the psp has a built in mp3 player
the psp has more support
the psp has a nice screen with 16 million colors
the psp has a faster processor (up to 333mhz, if you overclock it... google it)
The new psp games coming out really show what the machine is capable of... unfortunatly, many of the games are simply a ps2 or ps1 knockoff.. but they are getting better.
yes, a psp'2' is in the works. this has been confirmed by sonys exec in the UK, however, its not really a '2'.. its a updated psp. All we know for a fact is that it is going to be thinner, lighter, remain at $170 us, and keep the same size screen (4.3").
You need to think of what could make it lighter and smaller:
slot load umd drive (thinner and lighter).
led instead of lcd video screen (thinner, lighter)
one of the biggest complaints with the psp is the lack of flash '9' playback (youtube video compatable), so perhaps this will be in the works.
and another issue is the puny 32 mb of internal memory (many websites cannot load because they are bigger then the 32 mb), and a rumor has been around for about a year, that they will be giving us 4 gig internal memory.
we have no idea when or if it will ever come out, but by the popularity of the psp, theres little room to doubt they will be coming up with an updated version.
and i do disagree about the ds being better for gaming. the major drawback with the ds, is the tiny screens.. 2.1".. my cell phone has a bigger screen (with more colors too!)

You cant compare a Media Utility to a gaming one. the DS is better for gaming while PSP is more as a media player/small gaming. Theres a PSP Phone rumored and have reserve the patten already.I have both and I can truly say the PSP last LESS than the DS. There is various issues with the PSP

I like my DS a lot more just for the fun games out there.
Psp tries to be your multimedia device and not just be a gaming system.

ds lite. small lite and compact. ds lite can even play gameboy cartridges.
