The accommodation industry is conventionally placed within the hospitality business, however there exist a number of approaches to classification of the hospitality industry. In order to provide an adequate classification of a domain it is mandatory first of all to obtain a comprehensive definition of the domain. Here one encounters the first problem: there is no universally accepted definition of the hospitality industry. As Ronald Nykiel points out, "for any business that has experienced rapid development, a concise definition is virtually impossible" (Nykiel 1989: 2).
