U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business travel to this country. For others, here is the visa info site:

The reason for visa need: May sound odd, but the reason is the same as to why we need visa for some other countries - Iceland is independent country.

Iceland is a developed country, the world's fifth and second in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and human development respectively.

"We" being who? Americans and British don't need a visa to visit Iceland.

As for citizens of other countries, see the following list of the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It lists the countries whose citizens do NOT need a visa to visit Iceland:
