I have never understood why some people want fast cars or break the speed limit. There just doesn't seem like theres a good reason to.
Just a couple of reasons I came up with:
-more than likely won't ever have an opportunity to take advantage of the performance of a fast car.
-illegal to drive excessively fast
-paying tickets
-traffic school
-dangerous
-potential roll-overs(if in an SUV or truck)

I ask because a local newspaper columnist that focuses on driving related issues in the bay area is declaring(not officially of course) a "drive the speed limit" day tomorrow.

Just curious as to what others think

Thanks!

If you have to ask, then you will never understand the thrill of speed.

I don't understand the freaks who get pierced and cut pieces of their bodys off, but I accept it.

For some, it is the feel of a powerful vehicle, for others it can be the ability to handle an automobile well at speed.
There are risks in many endeavors that people engage in, like sky diving. Either they assess the risk and deem it acceptable, or they operate under the illusion tht there is no risk.

It is the same reason why people ride the roller coaster - for the cheap thrills. For few it becomes their ego thing. That's why they get so upset if you cut them off (the person not the p*nis). Also movies glorifies speed. They even names a movie "Speed."

Also you'll find that it is the younger generation who consistently speed. There is possibly a physical reason (ex: they have faster reaction time - so they may perceive time faster). In biology is it known that different animals perceive time in different manner (like if you wave your hands in front of a turtle, they see a blur - but if you wave your hands at a fly they see slow motion hand movement - the reason why it is so difficult to catch a fly with a hand)

I know I slow down with age.

This is more an opinion then any thing. Reasons for Speeding: 1. People running late, 2. It is the macho thing to do, 3. Showing off, 5. Under the influence and not realizing they are speeding. 6. They enjoy breaking the Law and dare the cops to catch them. Why people speed, because the lack the intelligence to follow the law.

The buyers of these types of Automobiles should act responsibly, and know full and well what these cars of capable of doing, be able to drive it, and have fun with it. Unforturnately, some of these buyers are not experienced drivers, and cause accidents, and so forth, give these cars a bad rap !!!

Its the rush of the pace. The more kw you get out of the engine the more you spend trying to find more and more until you cant get anymore and have to find something quicker. Its the rush and unless you have been there and loved the rush, you just don't know what you are missing!
800hp does not come with driver skills.

Some people...like myself, like for their cars to perform to their peek potential... We tune our cars to run as perfectly as possiable. This helps the environment with less emmisions and the wonderful side effect is being firmly planted in your seat. Driving is a skill...and like any skill, the better you are at it the faster you do it.

Yes I've always believed that fast cars are nothing but speeding tickets and accidents.

because its more fun than going slow, and the addrenaline rush of not knowing if your going to make it around the next corner, you would have to be a motor head to understand it
