I don't know for sure exactly what it is, but I get more enjoyment out of helping others.
I figure I can help myself when I do this anyway, so. It is always easy to help others because it brings me joy and joy helps me feel good.

Nuff said.

No it isn't, this is an edit. I shut my computer down and rethought this.
Helping others is voluntary, not a requirement. We do this because we choose to.
Helping yourself is required, and therefore, not always pleasant. It can become mundane, such as brushing your teeth, knowing you need to shower, get check-ups.

worthy-ness is the biggest concept most people struggle with. While being selfish is an actual good thing ( put your own oxygen mask on in the airplane before you put one on the kid sitting beside you) Selfishness has it's roots in helping other too.
You can't give what you don't have.
But the interesting law of the universe is that it is almost impossible to help another with out helping your self in the process. Since we are all one at the quantum level, we are always helping ourselves.

Because we overlook the most important person in our lives: ourselves! Often we make more of an effort to be kind to others & are not kind to ourselves (thinking or speaking negatively about ourselves etc). Often we don't really love ourselves enough. Some people actually hate themselves and sabotage themselves in many ways.

In my case, I find it's much easier to give good advice than to take it myself. A lot of times I know what I need to do, it's the actually doing it that's difficult. I have to learn to take my own advice!

Because when we view ourselves we suffer from tunnel vision which causes us to mostly see the negative aspects of our beings, whereas when we view others we have expanded vision and can see their endless potential and possibilities for improvement. Because we can more easily visualize these possibilities in others, it is easier to help make them happen. Maybe the Creator planned it this way so that mankind would know that we are truly dependent upon each other to achieve our ultimate potential......

Hey buddy, charity begins at home. If you can't help yourself how can you BEGIN to help others? I once heard this guy speak and he said, "you can't FEEL bad enough, you can't beat yourself up enough, you can't agonize over the misery of others to help ONE other person one little bit." Feeling bad for others, feeling guilty about how good you have it and how bad others have can't do the tiniest thing to make it better for them. You have to act both for yourself and for others. If you don't take care of yourself and your own mental health you can't begin to help anyone else.

because when helping others you are unbiased and it is always more clear looking in from the outside. Also you don't have to actually follow the advice you are just giving it.
