How can a person drive by a homeless person in a huge Mercedes SUV and think that is okay? I realize we all work for a living but what counts as enough? Is that huge house and cooking lessons really needed? Are we just trying to impress others?

The level of contentment of a person dictates when it is really "enough". Some people are content with what they have, some are very hard to please. Some are never content with anything even with 7 digits in their bank accounts. Some people have a deep need to "impress people" and really get affected when people say something negative about them. It really depends on the level of contentment a person has. If you're okay with what you have and have everything you possibly need even if the neighbor's are "richer" than you AND it doesn't bug you - then you have a good head on your shoulder, your heart is in the right place as well.

I dont have a big suv or a big house even though id like a big house. I see homeless people and wonder why they are homeless as I ride by. The people riding by probably think that they didnt try and come up in the world and thats why they are homeless. I know some might try but for some reason trying to come up from nothing leads to a quick run in with laws that knock you back down. Some rob people, sell drugs and other things against the law just to try and make it but these things are a matter of survival and some people seem not to understand it. I know some rappers gave shelter to katrina victims and some donate money to research and stuff because they know what they go through because thats where they came from but certain people think rap is just primitive and pointless but some send powerful messages. People forget where they come from because they got money which corrupts them even the so called up holders od justice.

We have a strong tendency to compare ourselves to those that are our 'peers'. If we are not doing as well as our neighbor, it doesn't matter as much to us that we are doing many times better than the poor living on the street.

Also keep in mind that our society is now based in large part of keeping up a continual sense of need. Beyond our real needs, madison avenue toils endlessly to help us to feel insecure, behind, not quite cool. It takes a lot to sit back and think about the question you are asking. It is easier to just stay plugged into the illusion that consumption will bring happiness.

You are WAY RIGHT. I mean we've got this guy John Edwards running for president and he says he comes from poor blue collar people and he understands what it's like to be poor. SO how does HE live? In a friggin' 32,000 square foot house and pays $400 for a hair cut. Oh, yeah, HE feels my pain!!! You know, 5.6 MILLION children STARVED to death in the world last year alone...if you want that verified check out the World Vision website. Meanwhile obesity is EPIDEMIC in the western world. It just makes my head hurt to even TRY and think about it. I can't even buy mascara without feeling guilty anymore...

The definition for 'need' depends on the individuals.

What ever the human beings need are existing in this world. To make ourself comfortable, we used to have a definition for our needs and we work for it. This is a unstable state and keeps changing based on our exposure.

While walking on this path, mostly there will not be a thought 'enough'. The reason is, when we reach our goal, we will be having a new goal. To stop ourself from this endless journey, our attitude should get meture.

I believe that we're not trying to impress others but yet we're trying to improve our feeling of self-worth. The media pounds into our heads daily that we have to be the best of the best. Helping homeless people would be stooping too low and having compassion--which is not needed in a materialistic world.

I saw a homeless person sitting on the side of the road with a sing, begging for food, behind the sing he pulled a cell phone out to check his messages. Don't be fooled, not all "homeless" people are destitute.

Thou shall not covet thy neighbors goods. I'm not catholic, yet this all ways stuck out as a big pile of BS. Yet coveting drives human beings to constantly get better cars, and bigger houses. They want people to say "Look at him!, he's got a nice car, his life must rule!" What counts as enough, simply put, is nothing, as having nothing in this society states that you are nothing, while having everything means you are everything. As human beings, we are always searching for that bigger and better horizon in life. We always want more, that is natural human tendencies

The child in her heart,
Screamed out for more...
More than anyone could give.
Dreams ruled her sky,
Holding onto hope...
That she might live.
The hurt in her eyes,
Blinded her to love...
The one time it was right.
Her faith crumbling,
She built more walls..
And cried through the night.

Her tears fell like rain,
Fell for the lost,
fell for the pain;
Fell for the cost,
Fell for the shame...
Her tears fell like rain.

Enough is never enough,
Her soul cried out...
It will be forever in vain.
There can never be more,
When enough is too much...
Everything remains the same.

One day she may understand,
Believing in faith...
If it’s not too late.
The tears in her eyes may dry,
And her heart may stop...
But she’s too tired to wait.

Her tears fell like rain,
Fell for the lost,
fell for the pain;
Fell for the cost,
Fell for the shame...
Her tears fell like rain.

Humans want everything they desire. Once they think they have everything they are wrong. If they see something that they don't have then they'll try to get it. We are just like that.
