You can get a list of all the accredited medical schools in the USA by checking the website of the Association of American Medical Colleges AAMC online.

There is no point in worrying about "best" as if it were a choice. Unless you are unequivocally one of the best students in the world, you will have to apply to several medical schools and be happy if you get into any of them.

There are many private medical schools in California, but I don't see why you wouldn't consider a UC school as well (the UC system has the monopoly on public medical colleges in this state).

The competition to get into any medical school in CA is pretty intense, especially if you are heading into a MD program. MCAT scores in this state are upwards of 35+ on average for most schools. The scores are a bit lower for the DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine) programs.

The private med schools in this state include: Stanfurd, USC, Loma Linda, Western U, and Touro. The first 3 are MD programs, the latter two are DO programs.

Of the UCs, UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, UC Irvine, UC Davis all have MD programs. They are all highly prestigious and competitive programs, and cost a third of what the private schools charge.
