I don't know how well off your family is, and no one else does either. So we really can't determine for certain, though something my parents always did to me while growing up and I wanted something expensive is they'd say that "oh that looks expensive" "where would you put it?" and stuff like that and get it for me anyways. Though if your family is not well off, it may be true that they won't get it for you. Gauge it based off previous birthdays, how have they dropped hints about what you're going to be getting in the past (if any)? Have you usually received what you ask for? I know that I got an Xbox 360 for my birthday because my parents wanted to surprise me and made it seem like it was impossible to find every day.

From what you have stated, your parents realized that the xbox 360 is expensive after they realized the cost is $400. I think they want you to save up any money you receive or have so that you can purchase that for yourself, knowing that you can save your money for anything you want to buy.

Sounds like they are hinting you should save up and buy your own if you want one. $400 is a lot of money for a toy.

Sounds like they aren't. My idea is for you guys to go half and half. You each pay $200. This always works trust me. They may even go 25/75.
