In your opinion, shouldn`t my mother start dropping her rules? I give a fair portion of my part time job salary. but she still treats me like a 15 year old.

you're generous to give money for housing for family. i agree you should be able to have more independence. you could sit down and talk with her. she should be proud to have a compassionate son like you.

but if things don't change, it's natural to be frustrated. but don't be too mad at her. she's probably working hard to be a mother and would like only your best interests at heart. she probably cares deeply for you.

i realize it sucks sometimes living at home and "under their rules", but if it still sucks, chalk it up to experience.

and keep the lines of communication open. talking together is key. even just a simple, "how's your day going?" it can work wonders. maybe then she'll realize how responsible and attentive you are and she should give you more freedom.

good luck, man.

Rules are still rules. It is a courtesy that your parents still allow you to live there. "A fair portion" may just be to teach you responsiblity. IT is still her house. If you don't want to live by the rules.... you don't have to, but you'll need to find a new address in order to do so.

Are you still acting like a 15 year old? You may not think so, but she might.... Just a thought.

As long as you live with your parents you will be a child. Their house their rules. If you are 18 you should be working full time or in college not home living with parents and working part time.

HA!! I remember those days!! Yeh, I hear what you're saying dude. She should lighten up a little bit, you're 18 you should be having fun with ALL of your money. She should be glad you're giving her some.

Is your mom over-protective? My mom sure was. I hated it.

I'd try to talk to her and tell her, hey I'm 18, I give you money, I just want to live here and have a good time, but I won't do anything that's not within reason while I'm under your roof. It's fair for her to have rules, but you should be able to do most of the things you want to do.

I think most people your age live at home through their college years (if they dont move away for college) and dont leave home until about 22-23 years old...If you get along with your parents I suggest you stick around as long as you can and stack cash..

Because your name isn't on the deed. And until you get your own place you can't do anything but abide by the rules that your Mom has set for her household. Its all about respect. Peace.

To her, you're still her little boy. Her baby. She just wants to make sure you're making the right decisions. Sometimes it can be a pain I know. She's just doing it out of love though.

You are very lucky to have a mother who loves you and cares for you even if you are already an adult. I wish I have a mother like yours.

Parents will be parents. Wait till the shoe is on the other foot, see if you don't try running your childs' life forever.
