No, it isn`t rare. Its a novelty coin made by an after-Mint company, I believe. They used to be common.

It is a novelty item like someone said. From the middle 1960's to at least the late1980's companies added a bust of JFK, or an outline of a state to the Lincoln cent. There are cents out there with Mr. Lincoln smoking a pipe or cigar, as well as the outlines of the 50 states. They were massed produced. They have a little value to them but not much more than .50 to a $1. if you find the right person that wants it. I would say if it was a 1963 or 1964 cent you might get more for it. It may not have a lot of monetary value but at least has a history value. Remember both were assassinated, as well as, one was elected in 1860, the other 1960. I would hold on to it and pass it down in your family.

I too found a penny like the one you described. This was maybe 20 years ago. I too wondered about it.....but then one day I walked into the local K-Mart and right there in the gum ball machine were plastic bubble balls with this penny and a piece of paper inside listing all the similarities of these two people. Rare.... maybe....but I doubt if they would be worth anything.......the mints did not make these. I wish they were cause I still have mine also.

you say it has a sketched picture of JFK on it?

hmmmmmmmmm, then i would say its not rare, but a counterfeit, on the other hand, i could be wrong (someone could have been board and did that them self)
