Jimmy "the Weisel" Frattiano claimed that Giancana (the then Boss of Bosses out of Chicago) gave the go ahead for Marcello (of New Orleans) to carry out the assassination. It involved Castro (who had a grudge after finding out the CIA was behind the Bay of Pigs Invastion) so he got a patsy (Oswald) from the Russians to carry-out the deed. Marcello's beef was a result of RFK's investigations into organized crime. To cover the link to the Mafia, Marcello had Jack Ruby (a two bit night club owner in the Marcello organization) take out Oswald to seal his lips.
Giancana's beef with JFK was his impression that JFK renigged on promises to leave the Mafia alone since he felt he pulled strings in Chicago to get him elected.
Several weeks before the assassination, Oswald met with Cuban agents in Mexico. For inexplicable reasons, the FBI agents who were following up the Cuban connection as a part of the Warren Commission investigation, were recalled

1. Because there are virtually no witnesses who have come forth with confessions, then we should assume it was a secret society. Not any branch of the government or its military but something along the lines of sworn oaths along bloodlines in which people can die if they talk...smells like the mafia to me.
2. The secret service must always depend on local police force's to fill in the gaps and assist with dealing with defiles, cracks, shadows and threats to security that only a local agent would know about. Anytime the Presidential motorcade heads down Pennsylvania ave, you will often see more local D.C. police then you will see secret service...thats because there are literally 5 local policemen for every one secret service agent. Therefore, it should be assumed that the local police had something to do with JFK's assassination being that nothing other than Oswalds presence in the school book depository was reported. Jack Ruby had to have ties to the local police force to have gotten so close to the most notorious murder suspect since Johns Wilkes Booth.
Conclusion
It was the crime of the century orchestrated by a go between of a powerful, local or regional crime family and the local police force. The Mafia provided the muscle, Ruby enforced the might and a Dallas cop provided the shots from a gap, crack, or previously undisclosed location not provided to the secret service during security breifings. This implicates the Dallas police department fully...your culprit....drum roll please....A Dallas cop....if you check your tabloid books and conspiracy books in the crimes section of any Major bookstore, you will find that there was Dallas cop who has already made the confession, however, he has since died.
The Government takes little interest in finding a culprit because JFK's assassination was a complete embarrassment to the secret service in so much that they really had not a clue who did it. If the Governement made a official statement, it would be such a wild and crazy explanation that it would liken to O.J admitting he killed those two people with a map to show how it all went down...the government will not do it.

Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone. No doubt about it, the zapruder film has been enhanced etc. and shows it was just one shooter, and it was Oswald.
Those who still chase grassy knolls and CIA conspiracies really have to move out of there mothers basements and take the tin hats off
Now, did someone or some entity put Oswald up to it? that is possible

If you had the straight up answer SOMEONE would probably have to kill you. Thousands of people have been trying to find the straight up answer for almost 44 years. Me, personally, I think it was the mafia. They hated the Kennedys. It was an Irish legitimate government Kennedy vendetta v.s. the organinized mob. Marilyn Monroe was sleeping with everybody from both sides of the feud and that's why she had to die. She was on lots of drugs that made her very talky and she had the goods on EVERYBODY. Whoever you think it was, it was not one little malcontent with a high powered rifle and some angry feelings.
