I'm a teenager who doesn't have much to fill her time with. I fence and play the bass. I've been baking, jogging, watching movies, learning some more Chinese, and reading. But...

I would like to start something that would be at least somewhat useful and wouldn't require a lot of money or too much time, just something to keep me occupied whenever and wherever I am (and preferably stop my mother from saying that I'm just lazing around).

I took up yodeling not to long ago. It is hard at first and i spent hours during the commute to class learning, but after a month i had it. Now i do it all the time and it helps reduce stress alot. If that isnt your thing, you could try something more artistic, like knitting (which is fun by the way, i am 19 and in college and it keeps me busy), or sewing. You could even make your mom something she might enjoy. I enjoy gathering small talents and learning new things. I think you should definitly try yodeling, even if you arent a great singer. It is great fun, and you dont need anything except a CD, (how to yodel the cowboy way is a great one) and you can practice anywhere anytime.
Have fun with your hobby search!!

It does not sound to me like you are lazing around. You gave quite a list of things you are into. Summertime is supposed to be fun and somewhat restful for teens so that when school starts you will be ready for it.

I make jewelry in my spare time, I sell them when I'm done..I've made a little spare cash out of it. You can get beads, clasps and pendants at walmart in the craft section and they're very inexpensive, also you can tear up old necklaces and pieces of jewelry for your focal pendants or strand beads. I use fishing line as my wire, it's extra strong.

I also think baking is a very good hobby, you could do your own bake sale and make a little cash as well.

You could try learning to knit. Knitting requires very little money and you can pick it up and work away if you have free time. You could try knitting a scarf at first and as you learn more make other things.

try knitting.

It is only expensive if you make it that way (um, yes, i have found $31- $40+ yarn....absolutly GORGEOUS!, but there's also MUCH cheaper stuff at walmart or hobby lobby)

You can make pretty much anything...which means that you can make some of your christmas gifts

And you can just do small projects that work great for traveling, like bookmarks, socks, headbands, jewelry, small purses, etc

Did you ever think of a sport? Karate or Judo are pretty exciting and will help you in self-defense. But any sport is pretty neat for getting into something.

what about soapmaking? can be inexpensive if you get the pre-made glycerin soap, milk soaps and you can use molds, additives, colorants. To start off with for cheap and see if you like it go to Joanns/Michaels, hobby loft or even Walmart
you can use it to....much better for you skin too

Try beading. It can be inexpensive and take little time or it can be expensive and use all your money and all your time. It's flexible. And you can make jewelry or art to use yourself, give as gifts, or sell.
