I have a $1 bill and the ink on the front is much, much darker than I've ever seen before. I've showed it too some people and I've even got a couple comments about how it's a counterfeit because the ink is so dark and dense compared to normal bills. The back of the bill, however, is normal.

Would this "defect" make it worth anything? Is it considered defective or a collector's item in any way because of this abnormality or is this a relatively normal occurance?

It might be, because there are collectors out there that collect misprinted/mistake money, coins mosty though... I would go to a reliable collectors' shop, and ask them. I personally don't have much information.

Your best bet is to take it to a currency dealer for it could be an error note just as well a a counterfeit, but few counterfeit a $1 bill and they did so many years ago when a dollar was actually worth something. It sounds like a printing problem. You can also try answerman2@aol.com, but you will need to send a scan of it with the email. That is the email address of Alan Herbert who writes the Coin Clinic column for Numismatic News weekly magazine. I have headed you in the right direction here.

It could be one a collector might want. A good idea is to look for one like it on Ebay and see what people are paying for it. Good Luck. Also look at www.coinsite.com because they have an inksmeared bill there.

relies upon plenty on the difficulty. i've got have been given some silver one greenback notes and that they've been quite worth around $4-$6. See in case you will come across an analogous merchandise on e-bay. possibly circulate to a coil broking. ultimately nevertheless, some thing is purely quite worth what somebody will pay for it.
