I had the leather seat cover replaced in my 2007 Outback LL Bean after 5 months as the dye had really worn away and the surface cracked to the point that there was an actual hole in the seat. The new leather replacement (factory original, under warranty) is already showing similar wear after only THREE WEEKS. In this period, I have only put 400 (four hundred) miles on the car and I've only gotten in and out of the car about 60 (sixty) times. I am very careful about sitting down in the seat without sliding across it, especially after the first one developed a hole so quickly. I wear a smooth leather belt and I don't wear any crazy kind of abrasive or studded clothing. I have not even worn a jacket in the three weeks I've had my new seat. I don't understand why the seats have worn so quickly. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you have any suggestions for me?

I'm in rural South Jersey. I NEVER open the sunroof except a crack to cool things off on really hot days and then for only a minute or two. I NEVER leave the slide open and I generally place one of those reflective shields in the window when the car will be in the sun. (They really work, by the way.)
I pretty much ride by myself. My wife has been in the passenger seat a total of about 300-400 miles since I bought the car in January. I don't think anyone has ever been in the back seat of this car. Anyhow, there is no wear on the other seats, because nobody is ever using them. ...and my wife weighs barely 100 pounds...
I did send a firm letter to Subaru of America, only an hour north of me, saying that this is an unacceptable defect and it would prevent me from buying another Subaru if they can not resolve the problem
Yes, I know LL Bean really has nothing to do with making the car. They did send me a really nice tote bag with the Subaru logo on the handle, though...
