There are many reason why any one person would need a exorcist to preform an exoticism on them or a family member or a friend... First off a person has to become possessed by a demon(a fallen angel).. That can happen when a person is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or you and your friends decide to play with a Ouija Board and actually conjure up a demon, or have a seance and the demon come among you and decides to take possession of someone there.... Now many things can happen but you no longer the soul possessor of your own body... Now in truth the only way to totally remove that demon from your body is by using the word of God... Now you have many people that go to church, but they really don't know the correct words that God has told you to use that are written in the King James version of the bible... Now almost all bibles in many different languages have this information written down in the correct way that those biblical words are to be used... But with so many false teachers out there the people are not taught how to correctly use those words.... So 8 out of 10 time a Pastor or a Priest is needed to preform the exorcism... Now depending on how strong the demon the exorcism can take one day to a month or longer depending on how hard that pastor or priest is will to work on that exorcism... But all correctly preformed exorcism work...... Now after all is said and done and the demond is gone you will have to lead a good life and really say your prayers. To prevent any demon from returning and taking over your body again... But cases like that or very rare un-less you continue to be a rotten person... I do hope that I helped you understand your question just a little better.... Also never listen to some numb-nut that say that possession by a demon is not real... For they are very real and constanly remain a threat to all of man-kind...... Good luck and always stay strong and grow in wisdom...........................................

An exorcist is a person, usually a Priest or someone in a formalized Religion who attempts an exorcism to rid a person who is said to be controlled by a demon. There are special prayers recited, and holy or blessed objects which are used during this exorcism. It is very rare, and some say that the prayers and the sacred objects which are loathesome to the devil will remove his presence because the demon will want to be distanced from them. It's doubtful that this demonic control will ever be proven, but there are people who believe it can happen. Personally, I don't!

I think you mean Exorcisms. An exorcist comes to the one who is cursed by a demon and then chants a holy prayer. The exorcist takes holy water and sprays it on the cursed one while chanting the prayer.
The reason why it seems so scary is just because the exorcists are killing the demon inside of the human and it is very painful for the human.

Exorcists are the people who perform exorcisms.
Exorcisms are supposedly the ritual that removes demons or other hamrful spirits from people. The ones you see in movies are highly exagerated. Levitation, glowing eyes, super strength, etc, never actually happen.
Personally, I think it's horse poop.

An excorist happens when someone is possed by evil enities. A priest has to get special permission to perform a excorism.
Here some information better detailed.
Before the Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s, in the Catholic tradition when becoming a priest one received minor orders. Among these was the consecration as an exorcist. In a way,
one could say that any Catholic priest was an exorcist. Today it is different a bishop will give a particular chosen priest the authority to do the exorcism. Exorcism used to be part of the general priestly vocation; now the job of freeing our tormented brothers and sisters has become a particular work of officially appointed priests. In my case both as a priest and as a bishop I am already imbued with the power that Jesus gave to his twelve apostles when he said to them: "Go and preach the Gospel. Cast out devils and heal the sick. I give you power and authority over all demons and over all sorts of disease." In Rome there are three appointed exorcists who have received the special charism to do the work of an exorcist.
First, we have at this particular moment one exorcism prayer that I have found extremely powerful. It is a prayer, promulgated by Pope Leo XIII, directed to Saint Michael, the leader of the Heavenly Host. This prayer, which can be said by every
believer, incorporates most of human needs in the defense against evil of every kind protection against diseases as well as against Satan and all satanic sects. Before the Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s this prayer was said after every Catholic mass. Secondly it is very important to use the authority of Jesus. When we exorcists pray, we say "In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the powerful intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary, of the angels and saints, in the blood of Jesus, evil spirits we cast you away!" We cast them away!
HEre are the lastes updates on exorism.
It definitely happens. Here is the Vatican's Rules regarding Excorsism. This was relased on Jan. 26, 1999:
VATICAN UPDATES RULES FOR EXORCISMS, URGING CAUTION
FRANCES D'EMILIO, Associated Press Writer. Associated Press. New York: Jan 26, 1999. Copyright Associated Press Jan 26, 1999
VATICAN CITY (AP) - The Vatican issued new guidelines Tuesday for driving out devils, urging exorcists not to mistake psychiatric illness for diabolic possession - but also stressing the power of evil.
The new exorcism rite, in Latin and contained in a red, leather-bound, 84-page book, also reflects Pope John Paul II's efforts to convince the skeptical that the devil is very much in the world.
“The existence of the devil isn't an opinion, something to take or leave as you wish,” said Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez, a Vatican official who presented the revisions. “Anyone who says he doesn't exist wouldn't have the fullness of the Catholic faith.”
John Paul has denounced the devil in a series of recent homilies as a “cosmic liar and murderer.”
In today's world, the cardinal said, the devil's force comes through widespread acceptance of “lies and deceit ... the idolatry of money ... the idolatry of sex.”
The new guidelines are the first revision to the exorcism rite since 1614. They did not drastically change the words or the gestures used by exorcists, but they do provide optional texts for priests to use.
The novelty appears largely in the cautions offered to exorcists to take psychiatric medicine into account.
Exorcists must “not think possessed by a demon someone who is suffering from some illness, above all psychic,” or who is “the victim of one's own imagination,” the guidelines advise.
Among the widely accepted signs of possession by the devil are speaking in unknown tongues and demonstrating physical force beyond one's natural capacity.
The rite itself remains essentially the same. It involves making the sign of the cross, laying on hands, sprinkling holy water and ordering the devil to leave the possessed person.
John Paul himself once performed an exorcism during his papacy, according to the memoirs of Cardinal Jacques Martin, the former prefect of the pontifical household.
Quoting the late cardinal's book, “My Six Popes,” the Italian news agency ANSA said John Paul carried out the rite in 1982, driving out the devil from a woman who was brought to him writhing on the ground.

I think it would happen when the demon is in you and you try to fight it but nothing works. It's usually why priests come over to help fight it.
