Heck YA, it would be faster even if you added 256 mB of RAM.
If you bought one of those buck-a-day computers like from MDG computers you won't be able to. It all depends on the motherboard. It has to be the right type of ram to the right type of motherboard. Is it DDR, DDR2, or even SD ram.

Most likely you will see a significant speed increase. As for if your motherboard will support it, probably. The vast majority of motherboards will support at least that much, but it's always possible that you have one that won't support it. Another thing to think about is you may have 2 256 Meg modules and not a single 512. If your motherboard doesn't have more than 2 memory slots, this will impact what you buy.

Depends on your motherboard. Top of the line Intel processsor's are Core 2 Duo's. Your graphics card really isn't essential for much if you aren't a gamer or 3D designer. And yes, one GB will speed your comp up.
