Non-profit or business??

I'm really confused. I want to start a business/organization that helps Cancer Patients families have things they need such as a donation of a car. A non-profit is a lot paper work while a business is not. Can someone explain how I can run a business and still have business and people donate funds. I dont see how u can get donations if your a business and not a non-profit.

People can donate money to a for-profit business. But, the donations aren't tax deductible, so they're not likely to do it.
