The blogbaba loves Disney, and the topless beaches in and around Miami are priceless. I like fishing, and Florida has some pretty good fishing. Did I mention Bush gardens, Sea World and Universal studios, the worlds greatest tourist traps. As for north Florida, I liked that Manatee rehab center in Homosasa Springs where you can go down into the side of the river bank and look out through the glass at all the mangrove snappers, redfish, snook and catfish. Sometimes a tarpon swims by, it's just too cool. Permit too, those round silver dollar like fish. Priceless.
The blogbaba likes Florida.

I absolutely hate it. I'm a Florida resident and I never did see the appeal Florida has on others. It's all swamp; humid and unbearably hot swamp. My hair looks horrible year round because of the humidity. Sometimes it's even to hot to go to the beach, unless you plan on spending the ENTIRE time in the water. But the beach gets tiring after awhile and besides the beach and shopping there's really nothing else to do here. Plus I live in Miami and it's getting way to overcrowded here, horrible traffic everywhere. How about the driving; did you know that Florida has the 9th worst drivers? Everything is so overpriced too. And it's usually full of tourists or senior citizens. I'm getting out of here soon though.

I have only been there once and that was about 28 years ago. I think it is a great place for a vacation or short-term getaway. I don't think I would want to live there. I like the change of seasons and don't want to live where it's hot all the time.
Georgia seems like the perfect alternative -- I will be moving there very soon and will certainly NOT miss the snow and very cold winters of IL (live there now ) or NJ (grew up there).
But I look forward to some day going to Florida --maybe Clearwater or to visit a cousin in Vero Beach some day.

I always liked Clearwater, Florida as it's truly beautiful. Of course Florida will always be known for the nice beaches and fun things to do so it's widely known as a great place to go on vacation. I also love to dine at the great seafood restaurants such as Captain Andrews and love to go in all the stores and shops there too. I'm sure if you live there, the heat may get to you after a while but I'll take that over icy weather anyday. I prefer Georgia as I'm a Georgian and the job market is much better here particularly near Atlanta but I love vacationing at least in Florida and think it's a great state myself.

I went to Florida for two weeks back in 93. I loved it. I did all the tourist things - Space Centre, Epcot - Busch Gardens etc. Fascinating how it can rain like it does and be bone dry a few minutes later. So, I don't know much about your crime rates.
I'm from England, whilst we don't get proper seasons anymore - we have wildly varying temperatures. We've got the history and of course the Queen.
I'm hoping next time I go to the States, it will be New York. I did the West Coast tour before I did Florida.

Well, being I am from south Louisiana, I can relate to the heat and HUMIDITY! I love to go to the beach. The Gulf Coast has beautiful white sandy beaches. I have also been to Florida Caverns State Park. I never knew there were caverns in Florida. We saw it on a map and decided to take a break from the sun when on our beach vacation in the FL panhandle. On a trip to Disney, we got burnt out and drove to Melbourne Beach. The water was nice, but very coarse and shelly beach. I have never been to the southern part, but my BIL was in Tampa for a few months on business and said the area was very nice. There is definatly more to do there than in Louisiana.

I am in Florida also, North Florida.. Jacksonville and I really do not like it... lots of crime .. a few murders everyday on the news, drivers are morons, too much road construction, it is too hot and humid, not to metion the lizards everywhere.
I rather live in a small town, but my family is here, my job etc. it is hard to pick up and leave.

I've never been to Florida, but those hurricanes are sure scary. Even though I love heat I would never move down there. Most of the people who can't make it in other states move to Florida. I wonder why? Florida is good for vacation but not for living... That's just my opinion...

i find florida deeply troubling. it seems to be a state of urban sprawl that has now real culture or history other than kfcs and chemlawns. the beaches are nice, but even then i prefer northern beaches probably because i sunburn so easily in florida. but anyway, something about the state actually depresses me when i am there. i feel like it is very american, but in a bad way because it has not basis... if that makes sense.

Its what you make of it. If you see beauty in things loke tropical scenery and warm sandy beaches then it beautiful. If you enjoy birds and wildlife then its fantastic. If you like Mickey Mouse then you have arrived in the most magical place on earth. I think its lovely, but I like living in the north. I enjoy winter and all the seasons. If you are tired of it, move, maybe you will be happier in a more changing climate...
