my husband decided to install a ceiling fan himself. He was able to balance the blade as not to wobble, however, the fan makes a lot of noise when it is on. Can this be corrected with further adjustmnents or is the fan defective?

Assuming this is a ceiling lamp and fan combined, it does depend on the kind of noise. If it is a buzzing noise then more than likely it is the lamp cover which is held in place by typically 3 screws. They cannot be too tight or the glass breaks when it gets hot. What you can do is to wrap a rubber or sticky tape around the rim of the glass bowl where the holding screws touch the glass and play with how tight or loose to keep the bowl in place without the buzz when the fan is on. You may need to build up a mm or so thickness of tape or you can sometimes buy little adhesive pads to stick on the glass where the screws are.

I would return the fan for a new one. If the same noise is there then take it back and get a different brand. It's a little bit of work, but it is the only way to find out for sure.

Make sure the wires are not rubbing on the motor. One of my best repairs.A lot of times when you push everything back up , you do not pay attention to the fact that the old wires are hanging down ,and they rub against the fan motor. Causing a scrapping sound

If it is on a dimmer forget it. Fans are not supposed to be on dimmers. Reducing the electric current strains the motor and that causes it to run at a lesser effeciency. That makes the motor hum. There are dimmers designed specifically for fans but only certain fans will work with them

Something is not tight on the fan or light kit. Go back and recheck and try and find out where the noise is coming from. good luck.

Could be a loose blade or if it's got lights in it too a loose bulb can rattle like crazy.
