New computer. I have WMP 11 and Windows Vista.

I can "copy shortcut" on the web page and then "file/open url" and copy the shortcut to the WMP and the video plays fine. However, when I try clicking the link a new tab opens saying "Internet Explorer cannot display web page".

I've researched the WMP and Windows help page and forums without any luck. I've downloaded a variety of codexes with no luck.

The files I'm trying to view are mainly wmv files so it makes no sense.

Can anybody offer me any possible solutions please?

I appreciate the suggestions, but if you recommend I try something can you provide details of how to do it? For example, how do I "make sure WMP is accessing the web"?

There might be something wrong with your internet explorer's windows media plugin.
Try reinstalling WMP, and see if it works then.

It sounds like your media player is not authorizing web access. Check to make sure that your media player is accessing the web.
