can you paint cermic floor tiles? if so, how?
I cant afford to replace my kitchen tiles and my husband says they can not be painted. I am wanting to paint them to look like slate.(taracuda, black brown, color mix, etc) can it be done?

when a man tells a woman she cant do something, thats makes them even more determined :o)

I think you will regret your choice in painting the tile. You can do it, but I don't think it will remain nice looking for very long. If you don't like it, then tile over it. You can use what ever tile you want, just put down a good layer of thin set. Make sure the old tile is in good condition and not loose. good luck.

yes, you can apply a layer of primer first. the paint on top you should use PU ( polyuremihgtlac ) paint . similar to car paint . If you go for short term then you can use a plastic coating.
I have try PU paint on ceramic pot finishing just like tile and it look great.

no, the paint won't stick for very long..... they use cermic tile in swimming pools, swimming pool people may know of a paint they use to paint them that will work, but paint usually only sticks to ceramic tile when you don't want it to.

You CAN do it. It probably won't last long though. The paint will probably start peeling off after a couple weeks of traffic unless you acid etch it first. Then there is the type paint you use. I don't know of any faux floor paints.

Yes you can paint them with Acrylic enamel. It must be cleaned thoroughly with an acid based cleaner. (believe it or not, Tide laundry detergent) Then apply the paint. It must be completely dry before you walk on it. It will only last a few years.
