There is no question - the absolute answer is yes. A lot of things contribute to this answer. I believe parents today plan so much for their kids, and as the kids grow, parents continue to please their children in any ways they can. What does this do? it produces 'it's all about me' kids.

Negative, definitely! But it's their parents who are weak and give in. You can't blame the kids. My parents grew up in the 50-60's and I'm a child of the 70's-80's. Those were different Eras for sure. Now it's about what they "have" or can get. Not about what they do with their talents...unless that talent can get them a million dollar contract. Kids are very cruel to one another now a days. And No, I don't think it's doing anything positive for our world.

Kids are so selfish because they are spoiled rotten. not only are they spoiled but they are brats, and proud of it. It is cool to be a spoiled rotten little brat. I have 2 kids, and half of the stuff they do I would have never dared. We can only blame ourselves, we created the little monsters ;)
too many birthday parties
too many Christmas gifts
too many times parents go out and by the newest game or toy just because
too many freak outs in the mall.

I blame a lot of it on the parents.
Who do you think pays for those shirts.
All these adults want their children to grow up with more than they did, so they spoil them. Then they are lost in life because they think people will read their shirt and then buy them a car.

Art imitates life or life imitates art?
I think that the people who wear such shirts are searching for some sort of attention. If it wasn't shirts it would be language or violence or anything else. Regardless, I would think that it is important for society to a have backbone and speak up in love to things that are offensive. Providing healthy boundaries is what helps propel society forward.

I guess you are talking about teenagers, i don't believe there are any more or less irresponsible parents creating gimme monsters. The shirts are a normal part of teenage angst, and don't really mean anything. As a culture it's neither positive or negative...it's just kids.

I'm a member of the younger generation, and I refuse to wear clothing with stupid crap on it. My peers, as much as it pains me to call them that, are incapable of thinking about anything but themselves and their tiny little worlds. Ugh.

they are who they are because of their parents (or lack thereof) plain and simple. yes. i think we are seeing a self-involved, self-centered, and egotistical generation. these children have been undisciplined and told they are perfect from birth. it's almost frightening to see how much control even the youngest children have on their ignorant parents.

Because the previous three generations were co-dependent.
Great Grand parents, Grand parents, parents.
it's only fair that the younger generations focus more on their own lives!!
