When I lived in Virginia, my first apartment seemed to be not quite infested but housed these really gross looking millipedes, but I don't think that's what they were. Recently was visiting a relative in Virginia and I saw one of these same bugs at her house. I'm going to do my best to describe it, it has a long segmented body like a centipede or millipede and had what seemed like hundreds of legs that were really really long, kind of like the legs daddy long leg spiders have, and it was mostly this mottled green brown color. I've seen little ones of these and I've seen monster big ones. Does it have a name?

I just looked at the pictures from the site Digital Haruspex put in his answer and the house centipede was exactly what I saw...really grossed me out yet on the site it says it kills cockroaches, so not really a bad bug after all.

If it was a centipede, or it's cousin the millipede, you might be able to find it at the site below. If you can't find it you might be able to email them with a description and see if they can ID it.

Good luck!

I think what you are describing is called a house centipede. It looks like it would really tickle if it was running across someone!

It's a centipede. Generally, you'll find them outside the house especially where there is little sun.
