how many reasons do you want??
1.) attention span..if they actually had to play when it got hard they'd lose interest
2.) they are so insecure about losing that they don't want to lose face to their friends for not being able to do something they can.
3.) They have been more or less brain-washed that they have to be the best @ everything and that failure makes you weak.

And I could go on and on...but I'll give you an example of how bad it is.....my 7 year old nephew will start playing a video game and if he starts losing will restart the game over and over because he can't accept losing. If you call him out for cheating he'll have a hissy fit because he can't do it honestly without cheating and being the best. For awhile I'd let him use my memory card so he could save the progress he made..and then he got cocky about how good he was doing..I took the card away and now he has to start over from the beginning each time...and he can go farther every time..he's earning it now where if he'd use cheat codes or use a memory card he'd be finished w/it and never look @ it again. You play a game to have fun..if everything is given to you what's the point that's not fun!

I've used cheat codes in Deer Hunter and stuff like that.. It's always fun to see what kind of "specials" the creator added in there.. When it comes to multiplayer games, I can't stand it when people cheat! When I first started playing Yahoo! Pool I used an aimer for about a week - That was cool when I kept getting a high score, but even then I didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything by cheating - I felt like a loser.. LOL - So I quit using it and got better - People that use cheat codes or hack into systems are completely lame.. They might feel high and mighty for a few minutes, but once someone woops them, they'll feel pretttttttty bad.

It's much more fun when you can say, "I did this myself."

They want to get farther so they can have more fun or get past a hard part in the game which is not fun. There are also cheats that do weird things like make you giant, which is fun. There are also kids that are curious about what is on the next level so they want to get to the next level using cheats.

Pretty much. I happy to say I'm a gamer who NEVER uses gameshark or anything related. It ruins the whole thrill and fun of the game. The Challenge is what makes it fun, so it ultimately defeats the whole purpose not to mention their robbing themselves of a good time.

No, b/c many games are much more exciting if you have the major firepower right away. It defeats the purpose to some degree, but who wants to spend hours and hours getting the cool stuff, when you can get it right away and kick some butt?

either because they're lazy to do it from start to finish, or because of the hype of "secret" objects and levels they want to obtain. They need the books for help because they can't figure out some of the stuff the designers put in the game w/o the help, and have no patience to discover the game by themselves/with friends.

well most cheat codes give them an oppurtunity to get things in the game that they couldnt get even if they beat the levels like for instance, flying cars, special weapons etc.. its all for fun..just like the purpose of the video games

OH but its soooo cool for us (the parents) to spend our money on these..just so they can conquer it in 20 minutes with infinite ammo..then its done .conquered.wasted & on its way to the video game trade store for a 3 dollar credit on a 35 dollar game...they do it cause they are impatient. They do it because they have short attention spans. They do it cause they can be lazy. They do it for the power....& bragging rights.."oh man I soo beat that game in a day"
HA!

I always beat the game first, then afterwards, I always got the codes just to see what they had to offer. Lesson learned: All cheats are the same.
