Honestly, I have caught myself doing this from time to time but it normally isn't on purpose at first; however, after a while I start thinking about where I'm looking at a person and then I feel like my eyes are doing some sort of dance around that person's face. That probably sounds strange. Anyway, I have learned in some of my graduate classes that the eyes are the most complex part of the human body. People with autism (I'm not saying you have this at all) often have a very difficult time looking people in the eyes because of this phenomenon.

Yes I do that too!! A lot!! But it's only because I have an insecurity about my eyes. I always feel that I squint when I look at people, and I don't want to seem stupid in front of them, so I stare somewhere else. Sometimes, I look at the ground. Other times, in much more embarrasing places. Like someone's chest, or their crotch!! And I really don't want to, but it happens to be conveniently placed, so b/c it's so scary to stare into their eyes, I choose anywhere but there. So yeah, lol, it's very embarrasing, when people think you're into them b/c your staring at them inappropriately, when you're really just doing it over an insecurity.
The only thing I try to do now is, force myself to look them in the eye because I don't want people to get the wrong idea about my personality. Plus, eye contact is very important for interviews and such, you know to make yourself appear confident etc, so I've tried to overcome the insecurity.
I still do it sometimes though! You're not alone! ^-^

I don't have a problem looking into a persons eyes except maybe for my parents. I think that if you have a serious problem looking into someone's eyes when they're talking to you it's a sign of intimidation.

But I suppose I do look at their forehead and nose sometimes.

Except for a few people I have a problem staring at people's eyes while I talk to them. I'll glance at them, but otherwise it bothers me. Probably some deep emotional issue that I can actually pinpoint from a certain time and some certain people. But mostly I'll look around while people talk, they know I'm listening and they really don't feel disrespected at all.

it's not unusual to be uncomfortable looking into other people's eyes; i try to do it; you shouldn't do the reverse and ONLY look at their eyes, as that is generally not received too well, but folks do like you to look at them once in awhile, in the eyes. there is a stereotype that if you can't look someone in the eye then you are being dishonest. it might be something you want to work on, especially for business situations. ask a friend to help you practice.

Honestly? I used to do that because I didn't know that it was more polite to look into other's eyes until my health teacher told me(sad I know) but I think it is totally fine. It just means you are a little shy. Plus, sometmes when you look into someone's eyes, you realize that you aren't acually listening to what they are saying, just zoning off (not good). I've figured out that it's easier to try to look at their entire face and not concentrate on where you are looking but what they are saying.

Only when I don't like the person, then I look at the space between the eyes, that makes it look like I'm looking into their eyes.
It works.
