'Plain Truth' by Jodi Picoult kind of fits a description like that. It's a really great story. It's about the murder of a baby on an Amish farm.

All He Ever Wanted by Anita Shreve. Set in the early 1900s. A young new professor on campus becomes obsessed with the dean's daughter. Initially it's love at first sight for him, but for her, he's just an annoyance. She only complies to his marriage proposal because her father approves of him. As they start their new lives together, the young professor realizes his wife's not as innocent as he thought she'd be, and is consumed by jealousy/anger when he realizes she'll never love him.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck. As thick as Grapes of Wrath, so be warned. About two generations of the same family, where the sins of the fathers come down on the sons. Very descriptive of the sinful nature in all of us.

This may be way off base - but my favorite contemporary story about lost innocence is Stephen King's Fire Starter. If your going to be forced to loose your innocence you might as well burn everything with you pyrokinesis in the process! What a way to go....

But seriously it is a great book and one of King's bet "non-horror" books! "Charlie" McGee is the main character' s name in Stephen King's novel .
