survival rate would be good but here are some possible problems that could arise. This was 13 years ago so im sure its a little better now
My son was born at 30 wks. The lungs are not developed, they will count on a machine to breath for them for a while. Either a respirator, c-pap, and then oxygen. They will usually use all 3 of those machines in that order. The will have 2 be fed through a tube. They can have stomach complications that can lead to surgery and worse! They will likely get pneumonia and have a collapsed lung 1 or 2 times or more. Blood transfusions... many of them because they get gases in there bloodstream due to the poor breathing. It wil probably spend about 3-4 months in the hospital, after being released hospital visits will be regular because they are quite sickly for the first couple of years. Alot of them get pneumonia 20+ times and have asthma. After the first couple years things will start to get better though! My son is now 13 and completely healthy and normal!
if your going through this.....
the average weight for a baby at that term would be about 2 lbs and 12-14 inches long! The first time I went to see him after delivery which he was rushed out right away I almost past out i was so scared and overwhelmed. Not sure what area you live in but I was at 1 of the top hospitals for premature babies and they were very helpful and understanding. You can go on a tour of the NBICU during pregnancy so you will know what to expect! I recommend it and take some CPR classes cause most parents have to before baby can come home and time will be so hectic then so do it now if your not on bed rest

Well week 29 while in the third trimester is at the beginning of the third trimester and your baby's survival really would depend upon the amount of medical care available in your area. For instance, I live in a rural part of the country and any emergency birth that early would have a much higher chance to lead to the death of the baby than someone near a good neonatal hospital...so unless you live near one...try not to go into labor for awhile, because even if your baby was living it would live in an incubator for quite some time.

Over a 90% chance of survival, but the baby would stay in the hospital until he/she reached at least 36 weeks gestation. When a baby is born after 28 weeks, the chances of the baby having a cognitive impairment is less than 2%, so in the long run the baby would be fine too. The biggst thing would be the respitory probems that occur in premature babies and that can last a couple of years.

Most likely, the baby would survive. But, the longer you can carry it, the better off it will be. At 29 weeks, their lungs may not be fully developed. Most babies born at 29 weeks survive and do quite well. However, at 29 wks, the baby will be small in size (between 2-3 lbs).

My friend had her baby at 24 weeks and he was fine, he stayed at the hospital for awhile because he was very tiny since he was a preemie. My sister in law had her baby at 28 weeks and they told her that with todays technology any baby born at atleast 7 months of pregnancy has a very great chance at survival

The baby is known as "viable" after 24 weeks. This means that if the baby were to be born from this time, he/she would be more likely to survive with specialist care.

The reason being, the baby's lungs, brain and organs have developed enough to grow with the right support.

Did the doctor tell you you were at high risk of delivering early? My doctor told me the same thing at 22 weeks, and I made it to 34 weeks. I asked my doctor the same thing at 28 weeks .He told me the survival rate at 28 weeks was 90%. So I'm sure it's a lot higher at 29 weeks.

The chances are high that he will survive if you live near a hospital with a good NICU. However, he will be tiny and it will be a struggle. I hope that you aren't close to delivering yet and that you don't deliver for another 11 weeks!

At 29 weeks..I think your baby would have a good chance- with some help, of course...

Good luck

They say babies can survive at 6 months but with respiratory problems. You shouldn't even be thinking about that though you got 11 more weeks!!!
