It's a privilege granted by the church.
Because men have been given the right by the church to rule over women (that means it's ok for a man to hit a woman, to enslave her, to forbid her to have money, to force her to have sex and force her to bear his children), to compensate we're allowed to keep our hats inside the church, so we keep our purity (it's close to the muslim's hidjab).
That's a good deal for us girls?... right?

There was a time when a 'gentleman' would wear a hat, but remove it when entering a building. In that same time period, it was required for a woman to wear a hat to church. I can't answer the synagogue question because I have never been in one. But from what I have seen, I would call those things turbans, not hats. Yeah, don't get me going on the pope.

It is disrespectful for a man to wear a hat inside a building in the presence of a lady. It is stupid rules made up a long time ago when women were supposed to be treated with respect, and when they had no rights.
When I went to church, you could wear whatever you wanted, hats included.
EDIT: I think women should still be treated with respect. That kindof came out wrong. LOL

According to my very religious mother... women wear hats to show they are submissive (to men) and men don't because they are in the image of God. How true this is, I have no idea. My opinion (for what ever its worth), women don't always feel like doing thier hair first thing Sunday morning, men don't have a whole lot of hair to worry about.

If a guy tries wearing a hat to church , the christians will beat him to death . Not allowed.

That is because Paul, in one of his letters in the new testament said that women should keep their heads covered in church. So going strictly by what he said, not only are women allowed to wear hats, they are REQUIRED BY GOD to do so. According to Paul, women are also not allowed to speak up in church, EVER. Unless I am wrong, it should be in Paul's letter to the Romans, so you can read for yourself.

It isn't a privilege . Practices such as these are meant to show that women are less than men and should be treated as such. It's a horrible thing.

There's a scripture that says something about women keeping their heads covered. I'm sure where, but that's why.
