It is devilishly hard to repeat a World Cup back to back. I think that the team came together and really helped each other out during that wild 2006 WC win, but they were lucky that they didn't have any major injuries or that they didn't get into to much penalty trouble.
All things being equal they have a very good chance and will definitely be considered a top contender. Whether or not they take advantage like they did last WC is another story.

Umm... it's too early to say anything. But in World Cup history, usually champions cannot repeat their success at the following tournament. Perhaps it is because of regeneration problem, or because of fans' pressure. The only team who can win the World Cup back-to-back is Italy 1934 and 1938, but the first title is allegedly related with Mussolini regime's intervention. Next World Cup will be held in Africa. When the tournament is held in Europe, teams from Europe win, and when it is held in America, teams from America win. The only team who can win outside their continent is Brazil. They won title in Europe and Asia. I think they will be serious contender.
I like Italy, and I have been their fan for 16 years, but I gotta be fair.

They had a pretty solid team, but definetely not the best.
Honestly, I believed Portugal and Brazil were going to battle it out in the end, but Brazil got pimp-slapped by France and Portugal lost to...erm...I can't remember, but it's not important.
It looks good for Italy though, because they won the cup and will probably use that confidence to build up their team.
In the end, Italy looks like a force to be reckoned with in 2010, although I still stick with my usual picks: Argentina and Brazil.

Italy's squad last year was great cause they bonded so well and played like a real team. They should be just as tough in 2010 but it is too soon to tell.

I think they were really good and deserved to win but I don't think the team will stay the same for 2010 but good luck to Italy

Italy wasn't epected to win last year and they seem to play better when not much is expected of them. It's hard to predict who will win in 2010 but if current trends continue it will be between Italy, Argentina and France

Oh Brasil wasn't at their best AT ALL during that tournament, I'd count them out for now.
As for Germany having 'the best team', I disagree soooo much. I think Germany got lucky getting that far, and I'm not the only one. And Podolski winning best youth player? Shows you what hosting a cup can really do.
Italia definitely has a chance at a repeat. For me, I hope Portugal wins.

They had a good team but caught a big break with the headbutt incident. The Germans had a better team during the tournament but fell apart in the end. Don't count out Brazil.

Italy was awesome, they have a great chance in repeating it in 2010, they're replacing the retired players with young players and they're going to be unstoppable!!
