I offered to help and she said I was so stupid she would be surprised if I didn't burn the house down and that's why I told her that.

Awwwwww. I doubt your mom is THAT bad lol. I cornered the market on STUPID LOUSY cooks with my ex step mother. Not kidding folks! She was soooo stupid, she made Kraft macaroni and cheese with water, then couldnt figure out WHY it wasnt very cheesy. She ALSO got a recipe for making spaghetti. Followed the instructions to a T...........almost! At the part where it says when noodles are no longer chewy to add spaghetti sauce....that's EXACTLY what she did....................WITHOUT DRAINING THE WATER!! Have YOU ever eaten spaghetti soup???

It probably hurt her because she's probably doing the best she can considering she's probably sick of having to think up what to eat and then cook every night (just think how long she's been doing it--could you cook dinner every night for that long and make each meal great?). I once complained that we had rice every single supper ('cause dad liked it) and I was sick of rice--so mom made me cook dinner for a few weeks until the family started complaining about having to eat spaghetti again (the only thing I knew how to cook). You can voice your opinion but you need to do it in a kind, caring manner or you'll hurt people you love. You might want to apologize to your mom, tell her you didn't mean to be mean and you realize it must be lousy having to figure out what to eat and cook every night for a bunch who don't even appreciate it. Maybe offer to do the cooking one night a week so she gets a break and so you can learn to cook, take her out to dinner once a week so she's not stuck in the kitchen. Now that I'm grown, I find myself standing in the middle of the supermarket going "what should we eat, I'm so sick of the usual stuff but don't want to have to do a lot of work..." and then have to call my sister to get ideas (she emails me when she runs out of ideas for something new to make for supper). There's nothing that says "mom" has to do the cooking either--maybe if your mom is truly an awful cook, someone else needs to take over the chore.

Yes.It was wrong. Though your mum should have looked for a better way to tell you how she feels about your cooking, you also should absolutely not talk to your mum like that. Someday, if you do have a child, (in case ypu plan to have one), think how it would feel to be talked to like that by your daughter. Also its generally not advisabel to go telling hurtful things to people, just because they told you something bad. After all this what have you done, hope you have apologized? And hey, Do I sense some uncurrent of tension between you and mum that needs to be worked on?

No way. She went through the trouble of not only buying the food, but preparing it and serving it, the least you could do is pick at it...Unless your callous enough to hurt your mom's feelings with such blatant disrespect. Your lucky to have a mom to cook for you, I lost my mom when I was a little kid. Dude, I wish I had a mom...even if she was a terrible cook!

No it wasn't wrong. Honesty is always the best policy. Not only have you been honest, you probably saved her money and time. It's a lot of time and money to buy food, and prep, before cooking.....You could also help her out by buying her a cook book.

It was mean, I mean, my girlfriend can't cook a quesadilla qithout burning it and I still eat it because she made an effort... If I can't take it I use a small lie and say I am not hungry and then run to McDonalds or something when she is not home.

that was kind of mean but you should have appproached it differently. you should have said that her cooking is not all good and that she should read a couple recipes, or you could suggest some recipes without saying that she was a bad cook. then she wouldn't have been so mad at you. plus you just got of embarassing and hurting your mom's feelings.

That wasn't very nice! Next time not too hurt her feelings, let her cook and make sure you have a dog next to you. Get the idea?

Yes it was wrong, a terrible thing to say to your mom. I have been told the same by my daughter, but when i put the dinner on the table she quickly changed her mind. My daughter didn't die but after all these years{25}she still complains but she still eats it. In fact my food has become a running joke between us. Be more respectful to your mom, same thing i said to my daughter.
