I have a small problem, and I'm hoping someone out there can help -- I chipped the back side of a large mirror while removing it from a wall. The mirror itself is fine, it's just the back that's affected-- but it still shows through on the front, if that makes sense. Is there anything I can do to repair this? I RENT-- and my lease is almost up-- so I have to have this fixed soon! Any ideas on what to do?

Some possible ways:
If you still have the chip that came off, you could try super glue or ducco cement to carefully re-attach (it might be sufficiently inconspicuous to get by the landlord inspection).
If the chip is missing it's going to be hard to find something that is shiny enough to match the rest of the mirror. You could try placing thin, highly polished aluminum (such as a piece of light fixture reflector) behind the chipped area, but I think it will show.
Would the landlord notice if the mirror was a little smaller? Maybe you could take it to a glass shop where they could trim the edge beyond the chip and re-grind the edge to match? (This might cost some bucks, so do only if the mirror was really expensive).
If all else fails, maybe you could arrange to have a friend over; ostensibly to say good bye or something; but casually standing so as to cover the spot; it's unlikely the landlord is going to push someone out of the way. Practice; with some good acting, you just might be able to pull this off!

A mirror is just glass with a thin metallic layer on the back. This is called silvering but it is not all silver. It is a combination of silver, tin and lead applied in layers. You can't really do it yourself but a glass shop may be able to repair it.

Go to the glass shop or call the glass company. They will help. Trust me. When my dad broke a mirror by accident, he call the glass company. They came and fix it. After they fix it, the mirror was like new!!!

The back of the mirror will have to be re-silvered in the spot that shows through. Call your local glass company. They'll be able to help you.
