I've heard horror stories about milage and electronics on the ultimate driving machine. I've also heard the big sunroof chatters in highway speeds. But most of what I hear is good. I'd like to buy a gently used 06 or 07. Any good or bad experiences to share?

You should first ask yourself why you need to get a BMW SUV instead of a BMW car?

The X3 and X5 are really compromises. They're built with sporty spirited driving in mind, but has to fit the shoes of a heavy, tall SUV that offers somewhat limited offroad capabilities. In the end, they end up with neither.

In addition, the latest Consumer Reports also said some negative comments about the X3.

If you want the ultimate driving machine, get a BMW car. If you need an SUV, get something from Toyota (Rav4), Nissan (Murano), Honda (CRV) or Acura (RDX/MDX). They're also a lot cheaper to maintain in the long run.

I've been with BMW for 3 years and have not sold one manual x3. In those three years i've only seen one delivered by another advisor, and that was a strippo price leader. It will be highly unlikely you will find one, even harder with the options you want. Order a new one.

Don't buy either. If you want luxury and reliability, get a Lexus or Acura. If you want your car to look 'good', get the BMW. But realize it won't look as good on the back of a tow truck.
