Mess with the buttons on your monitor - cycle thru til you see a magnet (looks like a horseshoe with a slash thru it) and select that. Maybe the monitor needs to be degaussed.
Move any magnets / speakers away from the monitor.

There are a couple things you can check.

1. Check the theme settings. Make sure that it's the XP theme or whichever theme you are using.
2. The second thing is to check the Appearance tab and make sure the color scheme and style applies to the theme.
3. Check the color bit. Make sure that it is either 24, or at the highest, 32-bit if your monitor and gpu card supports it.

All of these settings can be found in the display properties which can be accessed via right clicking on the desktop and clicking "properties."

Check that the signal cable is connected properly.

If you can try another monitor on your system, or your monitor on a different system.

Is it a CRT monitor? Is the entire image slightly purple, or just the background? If yes it is probably on the way out. It is possible that a repair shop could fix it but it may not be worth it.

If it is an LCD then it is almost definitely broken and needs to be replaced.

is it the settings of pieces of windows? or is it absolutely everything that is purplish? If it's everything then it could be the monitor itself or the plug for the monitor could be coming out. As far as windows settings, if you've gone to properties and then the appearance tab and then set everything back to default blue then I can't help you anymore without seeing it

Try to put a new desktop, and if to no avail, (as last resort) reboot the system, but that seems frivolous for just a desktop.

Have you tried going back to a previous date? This should fix the problem.
