Carefully inspect the side of the belt that drives to pulley's. There should be no checks, splits or cracks on any of the driven (pulley) side of the belt.

The best answer in my opinion is if you haven't changed it lately like the last 30 to 50 thousand miles change it before you go on a trip there is no true way to be sure it will last. The best way to check it has already been stated look at the belt ........discolouration, peeling, shredding, Slack in the belt. All could be a problem with the belt and some will indicate tenisoner problem if your not experienced in this kinda thing just be safe and take it to a Reputable Mechanic and let them make the choice.
Good luck

The easiest way to tell it needs changed is to feel the belt. If it is cracked or discolored. If it squels often it is probly stretched. they can also looked glazed (parts of it are turning brown), then it is time to change it. Very easy to do! Have a safe trip!

I dont know if theres a specific mileage to change if there were i would assume around 60 thousand miles. The easiest way to see if you need to change it is to see if the ends are frayed or if there are cracks in the belt where the ribs are.

Do a physical inspection. (You don`t have to remove it, but you will need a bright light). If it is hard and glazed looking, or if the tracks has cracks in it, replace the belt.
