The single best thing you can to to inure a longer healthy life for him would be to invest in a 2.5 - 5 gallon tank with a filter and heater. Also be ready to keep up proper tank maintenance and feed a well balanced diet rich in meaty foods.
Enjoy your fish!

You could probably give Fisher a happier life by upgrading his tank. 5 gallons is a great size for a betta tank. Also, you can only add tankmates for your betta once your tank is at least 5 gallons.
Adding a filter and a heater would also help a lot. Bettas need constant warm temperatures. If you're getting a filter, to keep his tank cleaner, you should get a sponge filter, because they produce minimal water current which is good for bettas. It's difficult to get a filter and heater into a bowl though...maybe changing to a tank would be a good idea.
You can also make him happier by increasing the variety of foods that you're feeding him. You didn't describe his current diet, but bettas absolutely love variety in their diet.
They like brine shrimp, bloodworms, mosquito larvae or daphnia. You can get them freeze dried, frozen or live (live is their favourite, but obviously the most inconvenient).
Java moss is a wonderful and very low-maintenance plant to keep with bettas. You can add some of that, or some leafy plants for your bettas to rest on. Decorations and toys will make your tank look better and give your betta somemore visual stimulation: caves, marbles, floating styrofoam cups or ping pong balls (my bettas love to push these around and chase them).
Have fun :)

If you can get him a bigger tank, that would be a good idea. A heater sounds good too. Spawning bettas shortens their life span, so even though he may seem happy to be a father, if you want him to live longer DON'T DO IT. Having another betta as a "neighbor" is excellent as well, as bettas like interaction. If you can't or don't want to get another betta, you can put a mirror in front of him (but not inside the tank!) and he will think it's another betta! Feeding a good diet is important and so is water quality. Also, some strains (varieties of bettas) are more fragile than others and therefore lead a shorter life :(. Also, if he gets sick he will be more likely to die younger. Remember, an ounce prevention!

Sponge filters are cheap and work great for Betta tanks. Please upgrade and add a filter as soon as possible. All fish need filters, plants are not a substitute. Additional food he might enjoy would be an occasional treat of brine shrimp, this is a favorite of most Bettas. Kudos for doing your homework! You have obviously studied what Bettas need for a long and happy life, and are doing most things right. Louie is a lucky fish!

Wow, I think he's already happy. Think of him living a short time in those little bowls. Bettas are fighting fish, and if you put them with other Bettas or other fish, he will start his campaign to wipe the others out. Keep doing what you're doing. Look at him and talk to him. Fisher's doing okay. Keep up the good work.

Hiya Bettas are so easily pleased, just keep the water clean and feed him good quality foods and he will greet you coming into the room like a puppy!! Fresh live aquatic plants will help him as well and give him some live food to munch on!
Enjoy!

Provide him with a larger place to live, 5gallon tank is good! Feed him a variety of foods, brine shrimp, blood worms, Betta pellets and tropical flakes. Also provide heat for him, Betta's like around 78*-80*. Sounds like you love your Betta! Good luck!

If you have kept your Betta for 3 years, you are doing a great job. Make sure he has clean, de-chlorinated water and good quality food.

Give him a larger aquarium with proper heating and filtration. Keep the water conditions optimal by doing regular partial water changes.

Sounds like he's doing good already. You can get him a buddy (that isn't a betta). Blood Fin Tetras make nice buddies.
