others?
Why do we need these things?
Is it somehow to find stability and security in a world which is dynamic, impermanent, a world where we are unable to find truth?
We will murder great numbers of people to keep some kind of order in our society, to make sure that we keep people obeying our picture of reality, we will kill for our beliefs in god or gods etc.
For what?
Religions and political ideologies are all the same.
Do we really need to be so extreme in order to have order, and where does one draw the line between keeping order and just being a victim fear, insecurities, greed, lost in madness hungry for power, etc.? what is power but a need to control things, to have security in a world where we have little or no control, nothing concrete to attach ourselves with. ??
Could it be that other ideologies threaten our identity, our identity being a creation of our culture, traditions and ideologies. So our very being is threaten.

We must suppress reality in order for it to fit our ideals.
Without our identity we feel lost and empty. It takes a lot of work to go into life asking questions, exploring and being open for a broader understanding. Who we are I would think is up to us to find out, not someone telling us who we are, right?
Could this feeling of emptiness be what we run from, because it is easier to accept ready-made identities, they give us the illusion of the security we seek....????
Hence the need for power.
why do we feel the need to protect ourselves from others at all cost?
are we really so dangerous to ourselves?
Could it be that we will go to extremes just to provide the basic needs for survival, water, food, shelter etc.
Could not most of the earths people be provided with these things?
We certainly have the technological means to provide for it, so why must we continue killing and going to wars. I really doubt its for the maintenance of our basic needs.

Much has to do with the motivation of a "believer".
Say for example you are a politician who wants power and the ability to manipulate others to serve your desires. Then you would become a "true believer" in the outward sense and learn how to manipulate and give a feeling of empowerment to other believers through your leadership. You convince the masses of believers that the world is against them and that only a strong leader like yourself can protect them and bring about a world that reflects their beliefs.
I think most people today can think of some clear examples of this playing out in the current world politics and war. Good intentioned people become involved in very ugly and deadly behavior that leads to war and atrocities that muddy all of us who share this planet. Fear is a very potent force in the individual sense and exponentially greater in the group dynamic. That is why false prophets or political leaders who shroud themselves in religion always nurture and develop fear within their followers as well as their enemies. Only in an atmosphere of
great fear will the average mother and father send their children out to kill or be killed. So the false leaders will make sure we have a reason to fear, even if they have to make up a story and lie to our faces over and over again.
Fear is the War starter not Belief.
Beware of the leader who cultivates an atmosphere of fear.

Quite simple.
If we know our ideologies properly, and if we are sure that it will work, we have no problem. Truth does not need any support. We have to be with truth to get the benefit.
If we are not very sure of our ideology, and yet it was imposed on us, or we just like it because it seems to suit us, there is a hidden fear that if our ideology does not work, or does not get a majority support, we would fail. This fear drives us mad to get support , even using violence !

people kill because they are afraid...afraid that either their ideal is threatened or to prove that they are superior, "might makes right"......it creates a false sense of security and power.....normally the powers of life and death are reserved for divine beings, so to kill someone gives some people a sense of greater power and glory than the average person..... some people do it because they believe that if someone doesn't believe like they do that everyone else is less than human ...its almost like saying "what my beliefs are not good enough for you"...some people also kill to feel a sense of belonging or from a mob mentality "if the group does it, it can't be wrong".....even those who have power and kill do it out of fear...fear that they will lose power or that someone else might try and replace them....i think i answered some of your question... you covered a lot of deep things in the human mind that we can never fully understand......very good discussion question though

Individual humans have their own thoughts and ideas, but when combined with tens of thousands or even millions of others with the same idealogies, then you get people willing to kill to spread their plague upon the rest of mankind. IE, religion. Islam and xtainity are prime examples. Politically, it's easier to kill in the guise of "civilized society". The sheep don't question that type of killing.

Our beliefs help give us value.
If a shallow person cannot see that philosophies are to help humans interrelate, but feel threatened by alternative ideas, he tries to convince with the sword

You are free to choose your own beliefs. No one can impose a belief on you that you do not accept. Any suffering as a result of your beliefs (anger, depression, guilt, sadness, etc.) are the product of choosing to continue with certain beliefs.

You have my vote to allow you to have your beliefs.
